Best plane ride ever

It didn’t take much convincing, but Troy did have to sell me on flying with Virgin Atlantic to London and then onto Delhi.  There were other planes that had direct routes from New York City, but they were more expensive because of this.  We also at first wondered how Virgin Air was so cheap and then realized that it was because we would have to fly into Gatwick and then out of Heathrow.  And we’d have a 12 hour layover during the day.  So, we decided to use the savings from the flight and spend it on a personal driver who would drive us around London and stop wherever we wanted for pictures and stuff.

In order to not feel like zombies during the day in London, we’d have to get a good night’s sleep on the plane.  And it was some of the comforts that Virgin Atlantic provided that enabled us to do so.  I can now say that I LOVE VIRGIN AIRLINES.

The easy reasons:

I could plug my phone into the entertainment system and listen my snooze time songs with better quality sound than from the jack from my own headphones.

Everyone got a "feel good kit" that contained really useful stuff.

In the kit were socks to keep my footsies warm (and yes, that's Frozen playing on the screen, and no, I did not care for it).

There was a little toothbrush and a one serving size tube of tooth paste for after the snoozefest was complete.

A stylin' eye mask that I'm still using even now that I'm back. Good eye masks are hard to find!

And the heartfelt reason:

Before every movie, Sir Richard Branson comes on the screen and asks you to donate to help children around the world with your spare change.

And because many years ago I watched an episode of Iconoclasts on the Sundance Channel and learned that Sir Branson and Desmond Tutu are the best of friends.

And an entertaining reason: Because they paid Toddrick Hall to create the music and lyrics and sing in this inflight video, which I didn’t get to see on the plane, but am still happy they did it (you’ll see it if you ever fly Virgin America):

In the upcoming months, I’ll be showing you some of my experiences in both London, Dehli, the highways of India, and Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga… all with a little Media Nerd flair, of course!

Namaste,

The Media Nerd

and Troy 🙂
